Determination is so Beautiful

I get a daily email from Danielle LaPorte called a TruthBomb.  I have them all going into a folder in my Inbox to look at when I need them, and today I randomly chose one, and got this:

And you know what?  That's so true.

Beauty comes from so many things.  There's the obvious -- external beauty -- but what's so much more important and valued (or should be) is the beauty of the soul.  And that kind of beauty is hard to fake.  I rarely wear makeup, but when someone does it for me, I can look really good. However, there's not enough makeup in the world to cover up a rotten character.

It's never too late to choose a word for the year -- no need to wait for New Year's Eve to make resolutions or choose a word, right?

So I'm going to claim this word as my own.

I'm determined to be easier on myself.

I'm determined not to let what some think of me get me down.

I'm determined to be the best I can be and not judge myself against others.

I'm determined to find at least one positive thing every day, even in the midst of my worst hours.

I'm determined to live a full life.

I'm determined.

What's your word?

(Your comments mean so much -- thank you!)

  1. ROCK IT!

  2. Lori,
You don't know me, but I read your blog faithfully. You are an awesome woman and I admire you so much. Stay determined.

  3. Lori,
You are so inspiring. I would love to have you as a "nearby" friend and/or meet you in person. - someday.
That said, you have inspired me to choose a word of the year (1/2 year?) - and it is "improve". I have been working on this in my art, my business, my health and marriage. I officially declare I am improving in 2013 - and beyond.
    Thank you.

  4. I think I need to be a bit more determined as well... but I'm too busy procrastinating ;)

hun, you look lovely without makeup,I seriously doubt you need someone to apply it for you often. I rarely wear makeup myself ( although could use it a bit more each year ;) lol )and when I do, it's just a touch. Makeup is like jewelry.. it's just a bit of bling to show off what's already there ;)

  5. Amen! I totally agree - you're beautiful inside and out. You've chosen a very inspiring word. As always, I find strength in your words and I'm proud to call you my friend. Honestly, there's nothing you can't do! It's been quoted around our house that it's too bad one can't eat the makeup they put on their face to make them pretty on the inside. I know you are faced with several challenges, I also know you'll come through them a champion, taking the challenges for what lessons they become. <3

  6. Oh, yes! My word for the year is Movement. It pisses me off that there is movement but it feels like it's going backwards instead of forward. This is not what I intended when I chose the word. I love your word and your determination. I know you can do whatever you're determined to do! {{{{{Hugs!!!}}}}}

  7. I have many earrings and bracelets I've gotten from you at shows over the years. A few days ago I selected a bracelet to wear. I think it's the first one I got from you - it's colorful and fun and always makes me smile. And as I put it on I thought of you and hoped you were feeling well and would have a good day.
    Absolutely - stay determined.

  8. Wise words to remember! I did a post on spring resolutions a few months back-- I vowed to kick my nail biting habit and learn to cook something other than a Lean Cuisine among other things!

  9. You're right. Nothing can cover up the ugly on the inside, even if there's extreme physical beauty on the outside.

You're beautiful inside and out! Your soul and your smile are simply gorgeous :-)

Someone I know once said, "You should eat your makeup so you'll be as pretty on the inside as you are on the outside." Ouch!

  10. Lori Dear I found you. I don't know how I lost your blog but now it is back from your FB link. I am so glad you have selected this word "Determination". It is a powerful reminder of our very own strength we possess. Even when we are feeling less than well we have this amazing strength within us. You are powerful and beautiful my friend...
