*** Re: The Pink -- yesterday at a show a 70 year-old man stood looking at me, stunned, for a few seconds before he said, "I couldn't figure out what I was looking at!", and we had a great conversation about hair, hair color, and LACK of hair on his part.

*** The best part of my show yesterday was when my supervisor from when I was in the Air Force in 1990 came to see me. It's been at least 11 years since I saw him last. I think I broke his rib hugging him. Love you for riding your bike all that long way, Keith!
*** I am staying up WAY too late in bed reading books these days. My snooze button has a groove in it from my fingers hitting it so hard and so often.
*** Mammogram tomorrow, and no, I don't consider that TMI, every woman should be doing this, so consider it my Public Service Announcement.
*** This cat lying next to me has really bad breath. Do they make Scope for cats?
*** My guilty pleasure these days for a quick five minute break is Playdom.com's "Gardens of Time".
*** Come back tomorrow for a destash giveaway a few ladies and I are doing!
*** And of course -- thank you for your reading my blog, and keep emailing me and telling me what you'd like to read or hear about. You give me great ideas!
Book Review: "11/22/63" by Stephen King
What are YOU reading?
Lori Anderson creates jewelry for her web site, Lori Anderson Designs, and wrote the blog An Artist's Year Off. She is the creator of the Bead Soup Blog Party.
They do make cat treats that help with bad breath. I'm getting some for my boys this Christmas >.<
ReplyDeleteI do have a hair question for you. Obviously for that bright a shade, you bleach first. What color brand do you use? My sis loves ManicPanic, but the only one we have near me is a style gel wash out color. If I want color ( I prefer blue or purple) I have to go for the hairdressers... who only do temp colors that are gone in a couple weeks, or order dye in and do it myself. I got a couple streaks put in last time and loved that burst of color, but now I want it back and longer lasting. Just gotta decide on streaks or doing something along the line of what you have :)
The pink -Love it!
ReplyDeleteRight now I am reading some boring book I can not remember the name of, I fall asleep reading it but I have never not finished a book so on I go until it is done. And then... I am picking a fast paced book that will make me stay up and read!
Your fresh hair looks SO fun! That's funny about that old man, and even funnier about the cat with bad breath. I've known dogs with halitosis, but not really cats!
ReplyDeleteAs for what I'm reading: 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami :)
I don't do it myself, but the two times Rick and I did a touch up when my stylist wasn't available, we used SPLAT -- they have a website, splat.com, and it is vibrant.
ReplyDeleteLove the pink! Bad breath on a cat ... how old is the cat and does he/she need her teeth cleaned???!!!!! Reading The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory.
ReplyDeletewhat a great photo, you look fantastic- and your jewelry is smashing of course...
ReplyDeleteKaren
Great picture of you! And I love the jewelry you are wearing!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love that smiling photo, girl!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the hair and the new pic. The necklace you're wearing is wonderful. I really like the silver dangles (for lack of a better word) between all the beads.
ReplyDeleteLori, just last night I went to bed with my cat and she yawned in my face and I was like, "oh my god!" she never has bad breath! I wondered what she'd gotten into! Love love love your hair. It looks so you. And I bet on bad days it cheers you just a little to look in the mirror. So cool when you see people from the past and it's like a little part of your soul just walked up and said hi.
ReplyDeleteI applaud you for being brave with your hair color Lori, it rocks! I wish I had a tiny bit of courage to do it, but I can't - work won't allow it. :( Years ago when he was 15 our beautiful TJ, God rest, wanted to dye his hair blue. Tim and I were completely opposed to it but our friend, who is a hairdresser, said "It's just hair, it grows back and you can re-color it." We talked about it and set some parameters for him.
ReplyDeleteHe had to keep his hair short, have it done by a professional, pay for it himself, and he could only have one color at a time (black was not one that was allowed), and he had to dye it back to his natural color for school pictures, AND he had to ask his boss (he had a little part-time job at a local greenhouse) if they'd allow it. Now, that may seem like a lot of stipulations, and if I had to do it over again I probably wouldn't have handed out as many, but at the time they seemed reasonable. He agreed, his boss agreed as he tossed him a baseball cap so he was ready to go.
The first color was blue (loved it, my favorite), then orange, then green, then guess what? He was over it and never did it again. I think if we had stayed firm that he couldn't it would have been a constant battle. He did it, liked it, and moved on.
Man, did he get looks and comments; from the old ladies at church (he was an honor roll student with severe learning disabilities who helped out with the little kids at CCD), to his own grandfather (who lives every day of his life with total regret for the comments he made) and everything/one inbetween.
We're proud of his decision. Two years prior to that he had wished he were dead. To have moved from that to a place of confidence and pride, with a "go ahead, look at me" attitude was miraculous to see. LOVE it!
I have been meaning to tell you that I love the new blog photo of you.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your books I wish I had more reading time.
I so love the pink hair! I colored mine hot pink when I was in college! Haven't been able to color it since graduation because I have been working for newspapers(photographer)and it would draw too much attention to me (It is easier to capture moments if I blend in), that and management kinda frowns on funky colored hair!
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading The Help. Wanted to read the book before seeing the movie. I have just started reading Friday Nights by Joanna Trollope.
What a great picture, love the hair! I salute your spirit!
ReplyDeleteI really like your hair always have. I wish I could have some color other than a natural color, but I would be sent home without pay until I changed it. I only have 16 and a half more years until I can retire and I can see myself rockin' some pink and green at 65 LOL!! I don't have much time to just read these days I listen to audio books though. The last book I actually read was The Help and it was a really good book. Have not seen the movie yet, but it did just come out on DVD today.
ReplyDeleteTherese
You look fabulous dear!
ReplyDeleteLove that hair and that fabulous necklace! So funny about your chat with the older gentleman. At least he was interested in discussing your hair color rather than giving you a lecture (like my father would have done).
ReplyDeleteRight now I only have time to flip pages of magazines: Martha Stewart Living and Where Women Cook are the most recent--if that counts for reading.
i love pink hair!! i have wanted my hair pink forever! I was told i would have to cut it short to have it pink though, and wasn't willing to do that. So I have pink clip ins :)
ReplyDeleteSorry i haven't been browsing my friends blogs lately. Just a lot going on. But do want to tell you how much I just love reading your blog. It always amazes me how much we have in common.
Lori, I started to comment one other time, (then think I refrained for fear of putting my foot in mouth--guess I'll risk it this time because I mean it as a sincere compliment). Every photo I've seen of you looks so different. I think this is the 3rd picture since I started following your blog. They all have been good, but this one is terrific! (And another interesting thing, each time you changed your photo on your blog, I got the impression you were 10 years younger than I originally thought--no kidding!) Anyway, it doesn't matter what you're age is, I just wish that would happen to me! You look totally happy and vibrant here, and this is a really terrific photo!
ReplyDeleteThe book I'm reading is the same one I've been reading for about 6 weeks now. I'm enjoying it, just keep stopping to do other things. (I used to read it at night before going to sleep, then I stopped sleeping! Ha!) It's called "Clara and Mr. Tiffany" by Susan Vreeland. She's a favorite author of mine.
And yes, I'm mighty fond of that necklace too!
I like the random thoughts, they are very interesting:) I think all cats have bad breath. Ours both do.
ReplyDeleteWhen I grow up, I want to be brave enough to rock some pink hair! I've been working my way through the stack of books next to my bed, too. Finished "Luka and the Fire of Life" last night - not bad, but I was glad it wasn't the first of Salman Rushdie's books I had read. Much preferred "Shalimar the Clown" and "The Moor's Last Sigh". What have you been reading that's been keeping you up so late?
ReplyDeleteCrazy hair! In a good way. It looks like it makes you happy. That's what matters!
ReplyDeleteLori....your hair looks absolutely great! Love it and that neckpiece you're wearing.
ReplyDeleteI so love this beautiful photo of you!!! Glad you show was a success...and I am reading Sacred Contracts by Carolyn Myess..
ReplyDeleteOk, Lori Michaud made me cry. I hope I will remember her story if my sons ever ask for that freedom. I too, love your pink, and the beautiful smile on your face. Had cats most of my life, and had many instances of bad breath, usually after eating a mouse! Or canned cat food.
ReplyDeleteI can so relate to debb. I'm reading a book right now that has a very hard to decipher story line. I'm giving it til page 100, then if it doesn't pick up, I'm closing it. And I read A LOT, and pretty much always finish, so it is a bit hard. I also got sucked into Gardens of Time, so I'll have to invite you to be my neighbor. Was totally addicted to it for a while, then haven't touched it for a few weeks. My hair is pink inside my mind, does that count? :)
If you find scope for cats you will need to blog about it mine needs it badly.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous hair, gorgeous photo and I absolutely love your necklace!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the hair!
ReplyDeleteI really like this photo! You look great!
ReplyDeleteI said it before love that color! It looks great and that is a cute pic of you. You look so pretty and happy and it reflects the caring person you are. Lori - thanks for being you!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see a photo of you - you look really happy. The hair is wonderful !!
ReplyDeleteI'm having my pink highlights refreshed for my 60th birthday bash on Friday !!
And I don't know about catbreath but we get dental chews for our poodle Lulu that certainly help with dogbreath.
Lori, love the hair (as always) and I love the picture of you! It is always great seeing old friends from the military, I just wish all of mine didn't live so far away, but Facebook has helped out a lot to keep in touch with them. I give my cats tartar control treats each day and that helps with the bad breath. You can get them at Petsmart. I am with you, I LOVE Gardens of Time. I am so hooked it isn't even funny :) What am I reading - I am starting the Harry Potter series over again! Have a wonderful week girl.
ReplyDeleteSharyl -- about looking younger -- (I'm 42) -- it all depends upon if I've had a week of migraines, or a lot of rest, and how the stress level has been! Makes a HUGE difference in my photos.
ReplyDeleteLori, you are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the freshly-colored hair! I'll have to show your photo to my friend Audrey, who also has pink hair, and who is always super duper excited when she finds other pinkies. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the hair! Good luck on the mammogram - they found microscopic bits in me a couple of years ago - you're never too young for your 1st!!
ReplyDeleteLoved the Virtual Craft show - I found so many "new" shops!
Those are some great random thoughts except for the cat breath! Our vet gave us some kitty toothpaste, but the cats don't like us messing with their mouths. I don't think it would help the breath though -- it's chicken flavored!
ReplyDeleteI love the pink! I'm reading Cleopatra by Stacy Schiff - and can't seem to get through it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your hair. You are so cool. Seriously. My elder daughter just looked at that pic (she's five) and said, "Oooh Mommy! Her hair is PINK, is she a princess?"
ReplyDeleteI love reading your lists of random things. They make me smile. You are one of the most fascinating and inspiring people I've ever "met".
I think I need to make a list of my own... hmm...
What am I reading? Re-reading is more like it. I'm waiting for my library book to become available (I love Overdrive!) so I'm rereading one of Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar novels. She's one of my favorite escapes :)
Lori, love that hair girl! I can't wait I get my re-done next week. Mine, I have a blonde stripe that frames my face, then a pink one right next to it, and a feather extension. All the girls at both my kid's school think I'm a 'cool mom', haha - not too bad since I'll be 50 next year! Love it!
ReplyDeleteLove your new profile pic - lovely!!
Hey Lori! I love the new look and the pink! I keep thinking I want to put some purple in my hair, but since it's pretty short I don't know exactly where to put it, lol. Oddly, I still have the remnants of bright red hair right in front. It appeared a few years ago and has been busy turning gray ever since. It doesn't show in the pics anymore, but you can still see it a little in person. My hairdresser thought I'd had it put in the first time she saw me.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like pink feathers.
ReplyDeleteSoft and light and beautifully you.
I love your hair :) I'm reading three books right now. One by Andre Norton on my kindle (can't remember the title), "Demon's don't dream" by Piers Anthony, and a book on relationships.
ReplyDeleteMe encanta tu pelo!! te ves preciosa!! y el color...es mi color favorito!! Feliz Navidad from Puerto Rico!
ReplyDeleteLori, Great photo! You are SO beautiful!!! Looking forward to the book!
ReplyDeleteLori, Great photo! You are SO beautiful!!! Looking forward to the book!
ReplyDeleteLove the hair and the jewelry. Also love the wall color of the bedroom. I would love the info on the color. I want to paint my office gray. Thanks
