My step-son Ryan is getting his PhD at Virginia Tech in Plant Physiology -- all the cool micro-level stuff like plant metabolism, gene expression, regulation, and molecular genetics. I say "cool stuff" because when I was going to UVA, I filled my schedule with every microbiology and genetics class there was.
Other than it being cool to have taken the cover photo for a scientific journal (that's a photo through a microscope, btw), having the photo on THIS particular magazine is the equivalent of having your photo on the cover of Rolling Stone. For scientists, there are many journals out there, but the two most respected can be boiled down to "Science" and "Nature".
So while my husband is just a proud papa, I'm an ecstatically jumping up-and-down idiot, because after my own four years of writing papers and citing this journal, I KNOW what this means to Ryan, ESPECIALLY since he doesn't even have his PhD yet!
Way to go, Ryan. Big things are ahead for you.
