OK, everyone say a quick prayer that I am NOT getting sick -- I have a cough, starting to ache. Why is it that every single time I fly, I come down sick a week later? Oh, I know, it's the recirculated air. Yech. Anyway.

Books! I am in the middle of the latest Elizabeth Berg book, "The Year of Pleasures". I've read everything of hers and this one is her latest -- not my favorite, but there are some lines and insights in it that I love.

I read Jennifer Weiner's "In Her Shoes" -- good mindless chick lit. I also just finished Dan Brown's "Digital Fortress"

Don't you love a stack of books waiting to be read? It's about as wonderful as a box full of beads that are begging to be used!

back from Milwaukee!

I got back from the Bead and Button show yesterday $1,800 lighter, but RICHER in cool beads, particularly handmade artist lampwork. You'll be seeing some new things soon (I hope!) with my new stash.

Did you know that now the days will be getting shorter? Summer is only starting, and as of tomorrow, the days will be getting shorter and shorter every day, as yesterday was the longest day of the year. Hard to believe! But we've got plenty of hot weather here to come -- and I hate the heat.

Well, I have a HUGE crystal shipment to sort so I'd better finish that before I start looking at my new goodies I bought at B and B! More later!

off to Milwaukee tomorrow!

Well, I had planned on spending this evening sorting that huge crystal order I got, but the vendor really had a bad day and got about half of it wrong, so that is on hold! So now I'm trying to clean off my desk and get little things filed and taken care of.

VERY excited about the buying trip tomorrow -- and you should be, too, because it means NEW BEADS to play with and create with! Can't wait. Although I KNOW that it will only take a day before I'm desperate to hug Zack.

no car, no car

Sigh. I had no car on Thursday, Friday, and Monday as Rick's car was in the garage getting fixed. I had my van back today and wasted no time getting Zack out of the house and back to our normal routine.

Darned if Rick's car doesn't blow something ELSE on the way home. SO no car tomorrow, and Zack is supposed to start a class tomorrow morning that he and I were really looking forward to. Stinks.

At least I am going to Milwaukee to the Bead and Button Show on Thursday, back on Sunday, to meet Elizabeth and go bead shopping! That will be fun, but I'm sure I'll be a nervous wreck not being with my little boy... when I was in the hospital I was reduced to tears that I was away and worried that he would be upset. But he and Daddy and Big Brother are going to see Grandpa and Grandma, so that will be fun for him!

House MD

I started watching "House MD" halfway through the season and got hooked. I TIVO'd the earlier episodes and just got through watching two of them. All I have to say is, man oh day but I have a crush on Hugh Laurie!

Gray hair, ice cream, and potty training

Today I colored my hair, and then highlighted it -- what I want to know is how in the HECK I could do two processes to my hair and STILL miss that big old gray hair that is in the front of my head????

We got Zack a potty chair today and he loves it but I am not entirely sure he realizes what it's for. No successes yet, as we're more interested in his getting used to it, but it's funny to see him push it all over the house and sit on it to watch television.

This whole motherhood thing -- it's the most fun, and the most frustrating thing I've ever done. I have NO idea what the heck I'm doing (still) and am in constant fear that I'm doing it all wrong. Especially when I see that my friend's kids are doing things Zack isn't yet. I know, I know, "all kids do things in their own time" but it doesn't stop me from worrying.

Oh, and finally tried to exercise today -- first time since surgery. That was short-lived, but at least I didn't have any huge expectations for how long I could keep it up. I guess the important thing is that I've started again.

And what to do with a husband who could care less what I weigh? I tell him, please don't buy any more ice cream, I have no will power. So for two weeks, I've had no ice cream, and been soooo good about it. Then yesterday, Rick comes home with a pint of Ben and Jerry's "The Gobfather" and well hell. And what's even worse -- I just saw on their web site that my favorite flavor of all time, "Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough", may be resurrected from their Flavor Graveyard.

So I guess it's good that I started exercising again.

Has it ever been a long week! Rick's car has been in the shop since Thursday so for the past two days, I've had no vehicle, and that just makes the days SO long. Zack and I both are used to going SOMEwhere every day, whether it be Guppys (an indoor playground, it's awesome) or across the bridge to the mall or something. And we just found out they found yet something ELSE wrong with the car, so it won't be ready until Monday (maybe). Money money money -- it's an old Mercedes, with nearly 300,000 miles on it, but it's a work horse of a car and has been super, and still has a lot of life in it, so fixing it is still cheaper than buying another car.

If all goes as planned (and when does anything go as planned?) I'm spending this weekend making jewelry. My last show I sold low on many things so I need to really get going and get some inventory up, as I have a show a month (and two in November) this year. Which is GOOD, and exciting!

Tonight I'll finish the book I'm reading, Dan Brown's "Deception Point" -- I just love his books, always fast paced and interesting. "Angels and Demons" is still my favorite. I also read "Samaritan" by Richard Price. Interesting, held my attention, wasn't sure who did it until near the end -- I just occasionally wanted to smack the main character upside the head for being stupid.

Next book I have on my night stand is "In Her Shoes" by Jennifer Weiner -- not sure if I will be able to make that sudden jolt from murder/mystery to chick lit, but it's the last book of the pile I got from the library so need to finish it!

more things posted to What's New

I just got done posting some new items on the What's New page and hope to have more tonight. I've been working on a $10,000 crystal buy (with about 45 other buyers) and that's taken up time, plus one of the stores that carries my work in England sent in a large order, and I'm almost done with that. Once that's done, I'm going to get FICKLES done! Yay! Also, planning on working on some new chain designs.

If you run across a photo of something that you like and would like to see recreated or modified, please let me know! Email me directly at with the link or photo, or post here.

Time with Zachary

Yesterday Zack woke up early from his nap crying, not quite ready to wake up. I got him out of his crib and took him to my room and lay down with him, and I got to steal a few minutes that are getting fewer and farther between as he gets older and more independant -- I got to lie face to face with my baby and watch him sleep.

He's two and a half now, but for the first six months of his life, he wouldn't sleep unless he was held, or lying belly to belly with someone. He'd lie on our tummies blissfully sleeping and I couldn't sleep a wink for fear of dropping him, but I knew that all too soon I'd wish he would do it again.

Just for fun, here are some of my favorite pictures of the little guy....
Three days old

Six months old

One year old

Two years old

He's a fiesty one -- and now you know why I don't have more time to make jewelry! :-)

Answering questions asked

Sorry for the delay -- the show at St. Michael's, MD, was a huge success. I did have someone steal a ring (bummer) but I believe in karma and what goes around comes around. What bothers me is if that person had come to me wanting the ring but couldn't afford it, I would have worked something out -- but anyway! Hope they like it!

Now, to answer all the questions that you have all so kindly asked -- I don't see who it is who asked unless you put your name in so I'm just answering these here and hope you see them....

1) When will I be posting new items? By tomorrow with any luck at all. I also run several bead co-op-type buys so I'm sitting here looking at about 10 more bead orders that have to be filled tonight. I also haven't opened my mail in three days (and there's BEADS in there!) -- BUT I have some new things, and will also start posting a few Fourth of July items, too. So hopefully Monday.

2) Fickle earrings -- these are also going to be posted this week -- I promise. Just wrote myself a HUGE note! Hopefully you'll be pleased and it won't be a huge let down, waiting all this time.

3) Longer necklaces -- I personally like my necklaces long but it seemed that every time I made a long one, I'd have the customer want it shorter. EVERYTHING I make can be made longer or shorter and usually at little to no extra cost -- just depends upon what the necklace is made of.

4) Someone requested red and turquoise together -- I have one art glass bracelet up that is in those colors, and I think I still have some branch coral that I can mix with some turquoise, and will make that up and post -- see what you think.

5) Wire work on my earrings -- do you have pictures or a description of what you're talking about? I do some wire work but they aren't on the site because earrings were tough to make lie still on the scanner. Once I get the camera worked out, I can get more up there - I have literally hundreds of earrings in stock but they obviously aren't all on the site.

OK! I think that answers all the questions for now -- I so happy to get the comments and requests -- it helps so much to know what YOU want. I read a ton of magazines and catalogs to look at trends, but when it comes down to it, I make what I like, and what my customers like, no matter if they are in or out!

Best wishes to all!!!!!

What kind of jewelry, Part Two

I'm glad I got a response! If you aren't a "member" of the Blogger, the post is anonymous (which is totally fine) but then I can't respond to you personally -- and you may or may not want that, just wanted to let you know.

Colors -- I can do just about anything in any color. If you see a piece and you like it but want it in a different color, email me, give me some parameters. Right now, I'm having a lot of fun with turquoise, and I have a lot of multi-colored things going on, too, but they seem to sell faster than I can get them on the web.

Also, if you see a picture of something and want to get a quote for me making it for you, shoot that photo to me, let me see what you have in mind!

Thanks again for the comments!

What kind of jewelry?

Today is the first day I've been home alone with Zack since surgery -- I got spoiled with Rick home for over two weeks! So far, so good, but in about two seconds, we're both going to go take a nap.

So, if anyone is reading this, I'm interested to know -- what kind of jewelry would you like to see on the site? Styles, types, colors, etc?

Email me and let me know!
