Baubles and Beads Design Team

I was utterly shocked to be selected to participate in the Baubles and Beads Design Team.  I put my name out there and then never expected to be picked.

We were all sent the same collections of beads from the Baubles and Beads online store and were tasked with making something with them.  The goodies are shown below:

I love challenges when they make me go "uh oh" and this one certainly did.  I'm lousy with brass.  I love the Chinese cording, but don't know what to do with it.  I'm most comfortable with the pearls, beads, and wire, but I have to push myself, right? This weekend I hope to get cracking.  I had an idea while lying in bed the other night, but when I took this photo, I realized, one wrong cut and you and screwed the whole thing up.

The other Baubles and Beads design team members:

Just looking at that list of designers who excel in their work, many who make their own components or just are one with anything they pick up, has me nervous, like the girl who somehow ended up at the cool kids' table and is faaaaaking it, hoping she can keep up.

Yup, that's me.  I feel like I've been faking it a LOT this year and well, that's OK.  All I can do is my best, and I'm proud to be in the company of these women and proud to be trusted with the components from Baubles and Beads.

You can see what we all made on September 18th!

  4. You'll do great. You always do. And if it's any consolation, I've always felt like I didn't belong, too. That started when I was a child and I was at the dinner table with my family!!

  6. They picked you for a very good reason--you have talent! I have no doubt you will come up with some amazing pieces. But I get where you are coming from. I see artists do soldering, wirework, cold connections and all sorts of things while I'm still mainly stringing. I still feel like the new kid on the playground.

  10. Congratulations, Lori! The company you're in is well deserved...You are a very talented designer! I think we all feel that way sometimes, like the kid who doesn't belong, but from what I've seen of your work and the kind of person you are, you certainly DO belong! Have fun with your challenge, and I can't wait to see what you make!

  17. You totally deserve to get picked for this challenge. I can't wait to see what you'll do.
I also think many of us feel like we don't belong or we have everyone else fooled. If only they really knew...and stuff like that. We have to learn to set those feelings aside and not be afraid to shine. And that's advice I still need to learn to follow myself.
Good luck! It looks like fun!

  21. Wow, if YOU feel like the uncool kid, then I have no IDEA what that would make me in your case. LOL

Hope you're feeling well and taking it easy!

  26. Oh what fun! I've seen some of the materials reveals from the other designers and I've just drooled over what y'all were sent. I'm quite excited to see what you do with the goodies.
I think you are in the same caliber as the other designers as well. You have your own style and it worked perfectly for challenges like this because the rest of us get to see a good variety of ways that the components can be used. Have fun with it!!

  28. You know I won't even get into the conversation of 'I'm not worthy'. You have a lot more to give than you are giving yourself credit for. I am delighted to be playing along and thank you for the reminder that I need to get to this asap! I think my own ideas vanished but I know they will come back when I start playing with these fun components and colors. I think the cool thing about things like this are getting the chance to just PLAY to use things you wouldn't normally select and having FUN. Because if it is not fun, then don't do it! I look forward to seeing what you and everyone else makes on the 18th! Enjoy the day, Miss Lori. Erin
