We interrupt this blog for National Pie Day!

If you've been a long-time reader of my blog (and thankyouverymuch), you know I have this thing about pie.  And as today is National Pie Day, I thought I'd interrupt this blog for a general love-in for this most underrated of desserts.

For those of us on a diet (raises hand, sigh) there's knitted pie.
Not a fan of blueberry pie, but I could make a cherry one,
which would rock.

Via pikKints.com -- click for the pattern!

You've heard of turducken --- now we have piepie.

Or, pi pie.

We have cake pops.
Now we have PIE pops!

I particularly love ice box pies,
like this Trader Joe's Salted Caramel Icebox Pie.

via Bake or Break

And then there's Jim Gaffigan's take
on why there's birthday CAKE but not birthday PIE.

(The entire thing is funny,
but meet pie around 2:46)

I don't know what it is about pie.  There's the TASTE, of course, but to me it also makes me think of older times, slower days, grandma love, diner dates ... there's just something soothing and comforting about a big slice of pie.

Enjoy your day with a slice!
By the way, what's your favorite pie?

Have a wonderful day today.

I've never been a fan of fruit pies (crazy, I know) but that salted caramel concoction from Trader Joe's looks fabulous. That's MY kind of pie!

My all time favorite pie is cherry, and most years, it is my birthday pie!

I always got my Grandpa a Lemon Meringue Pie for his birthday as he did not like cake. We can eat pie whenever we want! Cute crocheted piece of pie. Let them eat...

Those pie crafts are so sweet, Lori. I enjoy pie once in a while, but I'm a cake fan like Jim. (No one can make pie like my late Mum used to make, anyway.) Thanks for sharing the hilarious video... it made my morning!

Yay, I love pie! I make mini pies like the pie pops, only I leave off the handle. My favorites are peach and strawberry rhubarb.

Also, the cake versus pie thing reminds me of this cartoon by Allie Brosh: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/03/pie-verus-cake-scientific-approach.html

It's hilarious, as long as you don't mind f-bombs.

As my mom used to say: "Pi aren't squared, pie are round".

My favorite would have to be my Dad's homemade banana cream pie, my sister's friend Katie Kern's fresh peach pie and my niece's homemade apple - I can't choose and would have to have them all!

My grandmother's apple pie was the best. And I love a good real Key Lime pie.
You may already know of this site, but Beth's pies look like the old-fashioned real deals. She lives in the American Gothic house in Iowa; heartwarming story.

I must admit, I quite enjoy pie. Not as much as cheesecake, but it definitely follows closely! I recently discovered my favorite pie, too: Peach ^.^

I can relate to the emotional connection, though. There are certain foods that remind me of the past and just make me smile!

Oh, and I love Jim Gaffigan :)
