Starting the Summer with Bubbles, a Pool Party, and Kayaking

.
There's nothing like a big bottle of bubbles and a friend to start off the summer.

Getting the wand ready....

Now starting a Friendship Bubble....

Blowing one bubble....

...then passing it to your friend...

... and back again.

Summer really starts when school ends.  The last day of school started with a gift for Zack's teacher (even lying in bed, I'm never still -- I can crochet a blanket in no time).

And what better way to end the last day of school than with a pool party?
The kids came up with their own special version
of water polo.

I can't believe I got that shot with my camera!

Summer also means kayaking.
Put the kayak on the car....

.... and even though it was cloudy, it was perfect.
Water calm as glass, and just the right temperature.

There's a bridge that marks a turning-around point for us,
but sometimes, when the tide is right,
we can get under it and keep going.

But not this time -- there had been a storm
and tree branches snagged us right UNDER the bridge.

(All the kayak photos were taken with my camera!)

If the weather stayed like it has these past few weeks,
I'd be in heaven.

NOT a fan of the heat.
But I AM a fan of
bubbles,
friends,
pool parties,
and
kayaking.

What does summer bring for you?

  1. What a wonderful time looks like you all enjoyed yourselves!
This spring and the start of summer has been dreadful with cold winds and rain and we are set for another month of it the forcast tells us! I don't suffer from depression but the lack of sun has put me on edge, lost inspiration and the pains keep coming back. Oh well I just try to get outside when the sun does appear even for an hour before the rain hits again just to stand at the door and feel the sun on my face and smile helps a little.

  2. I'm not a fan of the heat either Lori, but Zack and his friends have the right idea, cool off in the pool. Your photos of the bubbles are amazing.

  4. As a kindergarten teacher, summer brings me a MUCH slower pace, a much quieter environment, and the time to garden (apparently I can grow cucumbers, tomatoes and onions, but lettuce and carrots not-so-much) and get my craft on. This year our second is heading to college, leaving only Dear Husband, me, and The First Grader at home with the cat, so we're in for some changes.

A/C is definitely my friend each summer though- I'm an Eskimo in Oz! Enjoy the season.

  8. Summer to me I a time to slow down and spend with family. I cannot say friends, well because honestly I have no friends. I have my children home for the summer. One day summer will be of vacations and friends. And bead shows! But for now it's quiet time at home with my family. :) I am happy to say my daughter passed in to 7th grade. I know we talk about our children privately. But this is good news. I live the photos of Zach and his friend. Too sweet.

P.S. Did you know you can make a giant bubble wand by wrestling a wire hanger into a circle and then wrapping it with yarn?

  13. You and I must be kindred spirits because kayaking is my absolute favorite thing to do-I unfortunately can't do it very often, but you better believe I go out whenever I can when I'm up at my Aunt's cabin on the lake!

Summer for me is definitely the local state park hiking, fishing, kayaking. Going up north and swimming in the lake. Garage sales and flea markets. Playing in the grass.

    All good stuff! ^.^
