Received my Bead Soup from Manuela Wutschke

Oh wow.

I came home from a grueling show to a lovely box from my Bead Soup partner, Manuela Wutschke.  And after you see the beauties I received, I'll explain why I'm terrified.

First, they came beautifully packaged, which made me feel horrible about how I had to package hers.  I used pretty tissue paper but every single time I think, "oh, I'll make pretty boxes" but this time, with Dad so sick all week, I had NO time and wanted to get her goodies to Germany fast, so pretty tissue it was.  I feel like an idiot.  But hopefully she'll like what I sent.  (Ducks head in artistic shame.)

Here's the pretty package...

I read the card first, and I needed this sentiment:

and then the inside:

First, holy smokes.  I'd be happy with just this, but there are two more little packages to open.  I know how long (and how boring) it is to make lampwork spacers, so I have a huge appreciation for receiving so many!  And those funky Czech glass beads (holy crap, she made those TOO) appeal to the texture-lover in me.

Ready for the focal?

I honestly cried.

I mean, I've been crying a lot lately, but this time it was happy tears.  In the Bead Soup Blog Party, you have NO idea what a person will send.  You can look at a person's blog and shop and they can send something that looks NOTHING like what they make.  I've seen it happen time after time.  Manuela's beads are very time-intensive and I didn't expect this much.  Honestly.  But she spent hours on this and it means so much to me.  But you know what?  She could have sent tubes of seed beads and that's all and I would have made something pretty from it and been happy to have met such a cool, creative person.

And oh, she made the clasp, too.

Now here's why I'm scared to death.

When beads are this gorgeous, it's really hard to make something unique and cool with them.  The beads are so beautiful that making a creative necklace (for me, anyway) feels virtually impossible.  I have my work cut out for me!  The focal is just begging for a beautiful chain and that's all!  But of course I can't do that.  So I have a LOT of work ahead of me.

Lori, what a wonderful bead soup you received! Manuela is a very talented bead artist!!!

I can see why you might be a bit intimidated with these lovely beads, but I know in the end you will come up with something fabulous, something that really does these beauties justice.

This soup is awesome, Lori!!!!
But I totally understad the troubles you are in. I am an art bead hoarder because I have the same problems when it comes to creating with extremely beautiful and well made beads and pendants. I always have the feeling that I can't do them justice. They are perfect the way they are.
Anyway, I am sure you'll create something that will knock us all off our socks!

Oh what a wonderful challenge when even the leader gets stumped. Lori I have no doubts that you will enhance these gorgeous beads Manuela has created and sent to you. It will come to you when you are not trying too hard to think about the design. Sorry you have had sad tears. I send you happy thoughts each and every day my dear...

Stunning, the packaging is so pretty too.

coffeeaddict said...

the sniffles virus must be going around ;-) got a bit misty around the eyes myself.
I think creativity is so much more than giving the beads the added value or the synergy that comes from combining them into something new and unexpected. Sometimes creativity is taking a bead, stringing it on a chain and the creativity comes from wearing a piece like that.

Tara P. said...

Gorgeous! I see why you're terrified, though - I feel the same way! The more beautiful the beads, the more scared I am!

Cindy said...

Absolutely stunning, knock-out beads!! Gasping here too! :-)

Those beads are gorgeous! So happy that you had a bright spot in your day... and some awesome beads to create with! I could look at that focal bead all day!

GillyBean said...

My first thought was oh thank god I didn't get that! Wow, I just don't think that with my beginner's skills I'd be up to the challenge to improve upon something so incredibly beautiful! However Lori, I too am positive that you will do something amazing!

Now that I've jinxed myself to receive something equally stunning...I'm still waiting impatiently for my soups to arrive at their respective destinations.

I have a question; what are we to do with our "creations" once we've made them, photographed them and then blogged them?

those beads are - i only can say it in german - "hammermäßig"
