~~~ Golem Beads Giveaway ~~~
I sent a necklace in to Stringing Magazine and it made it in, which actually surprised me.  But this time the necklace had a gorgeous Golem pendant and thought, why not try.
It's a simple necklace, and the Golem Beads love birds pendant and the Ad/Adornments chain is what makes it, and honestly NOT how I put it together.  And maybe that's why I'm not sending in as many things to magazines anymore and I've just gone a different path.  I have two more magazine articles this year, one next year, and that's it.  I see the same people quite often writing tutorials, and I just don't think I have what magazines are looking for anymore.
However, if any of you want help in getting into a magazine, or want something photographed, send me an email and I'll help you with all my heart.  Because each and every one of you deserves a tutorial, a gallery showing, and a cover.  One day, one month, one year -- yep!  You can do it!!!!  And I'd like to help any way I can.
Something really cool is I'm in the table of contents, which is neato, and I feel humbled to be next to an AMAZING artist, Stephanie Larosa.
NOW the GIVEAWAY!
To celebrate Golem Beads
I have an earring pair I bought at the Bead and Button show
to give away!
Just post your name in comments!
You must have a blog for this one.
Drawing will be Saturday August 6th.
Happy Creating!
  1. Finally I can comment.
    I know how you are feeling about not getting in. I think Bead Style hates me, they have rejected everything I have sent (and it's a lot of pieces)
    I am in Bead Trends this month and almost died when I saw it. Especially after having over 100 pieces turned down.
    It's a lot of work getting in I am finding out. Anyway, congrats on Stringing I saw it and was so excited for you.
    Have a great day!
  7. Congratulation! I haven't received my issue yet, but I can't wait to see your necklace. The picture in your post looks lovely and I really like the chain.
  8. Congrats Miss Lori! My daughter and I played the "Stringing Game" earlier today... we stopped on each piece and talked about what we liked about each one and what parts we would like to use in something else. She loved that pendant and the chain, and so do I! That kid has a great sense of style developing and can tell you what works and what doesn't in a piece...I am in trouble since she has no worries about telling ME like it is! LOL!
    I am a bit partial to the issue. ;-)
    I feel blessed to be among so many talented designers like you Lori!
    Enjoy the day!
    P.S. Let someone else win that awesome prize. I still have so much to use from Bead & Button!
  9. Congrats on your newest publication in the stringing magazine! It's got to be exciting. I have never thought to send anything in, I still struggle with the selling aspect of the jewelry I make. I have had interest but I never know the cost to charge and never know if my style/design is attractive to others. Anywhoo... enough about me. Thanks for sharing. oh and I can I be in the drawing too :)
  10. I will some day send some stuff in for a magazine. I'm hoping to atleast get into a what our reader's did section some day! LOL.
    Cool beads for a give away!
  11. I was having trouble commenting too Shannon!
    Anyhoo, I love that necklace! I don't get the magazine so this will be the only way I see it but it sure is beautiful.
    I haven't bothered with submitting much myself, I just don't think my stuff fits in the mags personally.
    I love art beads, but that seems to be the only focus any more in my opinion. I know, threw myself to the dogs there :)
  14. Lori ,
    I disagree with you !
    The beauty of your necklace has Everything to do with how you put it together!!! You had the design sense to let the focal bead be the star! Congrats on being in Stinging !!!
    I never even thought of sending anything to a magazine ,way too scary !
    But ,I did get brave and enter Stringing's
    "Winter Wonderland "challenge .
    Hard to say what/who magazines pick.
    But,I figure every design is a learning experience,and for me the process of creating is Fun!!!
    Looking forward to Bead Soup!!!
    m.e. :)
  15. Congratulations Lori! Your necklace is fabulous with the triangular pendant and matching triangle chain! You are such a sweet and kind soul...offering your help to others.
    Please don't enter me for the beads as I have already gotten so much from you.
    You have made my heart sing...
    P.S. As for being published I feel that so many times it is merely a popularity contest and not a true artist ability appreciation issue. Lori your creations are always worthy of being published!!!
    Great necklace and thanks for the giveaway.
    Sometimes the magazines don't publish what I like so don't feel badly about that.
  18. Hey Lori...I wish I could slide on over to your place with a big piece of pie to cheer you up because (and I'm doing my best Southern woman impression here), girl, you really do still have it. That love bird pendant is one of my Golem favorites. It is pretty cool how the shape of the links in the chain echoes the shape of the pendant.
  19. Congratulations on your necklace in Stringing. I have worked with Golem beads and they are amazing. Sorry you feel like you do about publishing your work. I am wondering if I got what it takes, and actually photographed a bracelet that I want to send in. But I hear the rejection rate is very high, so why not just get it into my shop and sell it? Just thinking!
  25. If it makes you feel better, none of my necklaces were chosen for the issue. But I'm OK not being one of the cool kids this time around. :)
    I love your design--it's simple, but still a WOW! I have some Golem beads sitting in my stash, so if my number is drawn, please give them to some other lucky beader!
  26. Congrats! I like what you did with that pendant. I have the same one, that I keep picking up and fiddling with, then putting back for later. I promise I won't do what you did ;)
    I ♥ Golem Studios so much.
  32. Congrats on getting your necklace into the magazine. It is so cute. I disagree. I think your work is wonderful and that you should keep sending it in. I'm not sure what it even takes to get a piece into a magazine, so I've never even thought about trying.
    And hoping you mean August 6th and not July. Otherwise I'm late. But hoping I get a chance to win those beads.
  33. Lori - your necklace is beautiful and it IS how you put it together.. selecting your pendant and your chain... It's your eye for what works that's magical.
    Congratulations!
  34. I love your necklace, Lori. It's nice to be published, but it is in no way a measure of worth!
  35. LORI, YOUR NECKLACE IS ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS AND I AM SOOO HAPPY IT IS FEATURED IN STRINGING MAGAZINE!!
    I would love to win those Golem beads:>)
  36. I would love to have the Golem Beads Lori! The pendant on your necklace is Sweet! I saw all of your pretty pieces in the Easy Wire magazine I got last week at Barnes and Noble! You and Cindy have an excellent showing and lovely pieces! It is always fun to read a magazine and guess the artist before reading their name on the design!
  37. Big Congrats Lori! Thats a wonderful Necklace! Golem beads are so exciting all of the kinds they make!
  38. well, first...congrats on getting into Stringing magazine and the others that are coming up.
    I don't think it's just you, it seems there is the trend of the moment for all types of arts and some of us just haven't had our moment...kind of like missing 10 or more of that so called 15 minutes of fame.
    I know I like my work and eventually someone else may, too. Until then, I will keep doing what maked ME happy...and so should you.
    ReplyDelete
  39. hmmm, i'm having trouble getting this to work, too.
    Congrats on getting into Stringing Magazine and the others, too.
    I don't think it's you, it seems there is the trend of the moment for all types of art and those 15 minutes of fame might only show up for one or two minutes at a time.
    I like what I make, it dosn't sell or hasn't so far, but I like it and it makes me happy. I hope your work makes you happy, too!
    ReplyDelete
  40. Lori, Received my copy today and immediately the necklace jumped out and then I was so happy to see it was by you - Congrats! I love how you balanced the triangular forms.
    I've only submitted one time and to my surprise not only was the piece accepted, a portion was on the front cover and used as an article prop. As you well know, it takes a lot of time to design, write, etc., for submissions.
    I also have to agree with Createology ....
    (Don't include me in the contest as I don't have a blog - yet.)
    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't want to flatter you, but the more I read your blog the more I see a real person behind it and I think this is your surplus value. You are always ready to help others and to offer everything you know, and I do think this is great.
    I also think your works are wonderful and this necklace as well. Sometimes is how to put things together that make the difference, don't you think?
    Ambra
  42. Congratulations Lori, I'm so, so happy for you. That necklace is rockin' it. I always love to see your pretty things posted on your blog. I with you would post more.
    You are a very talented designer and writer and I would love to see an article written by you. You have so much to offer. I agree with you about not only the same people writing articles but the same article every year; How to Sell On Etsy. If I have to read one more article about that, I'm going to poke my eyes out.
    A lot of designers have no talent for writing and should not be writing articles, but you do Lori.
    I also agree with Cat and Createology about it being a popularity contest and just about art beads ALL THE TIME!
    Please don't enter my name in the giveaway, it would be wasted on me.
    xo
  43. thank you for your continuous encouragement and ideas posted! looking forward to bead soup! i have never worked with golem beads--thanks for introducing them to me!
    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah Lori! Lovely necklace! And don't stop sending in articles and stuff to magazines! I know for me, when I look through a magazine I'm looking for articles and patterns from people I "know", because I can be sure of there clarity, vision, and knowledge!
    ReplyDelete
  45. If the magazines keep picking what they always pick, they will look like they always look. And how boring is that? Your work is always like a breath of fresh air -- creative & unique. Too often lately the magazines been doing the same things over & over and they're becoming stale.
    I think they do have their favorites and stick with them for no good reason. Big mistake. I think it's a compliment if you aren't one of the favorites. It means you're doing something unique and creative.
    I haven't seen Stringing yet but will look for it. I love your Golem pendant necklace!
    Hugs,
    Sally
  47. Hi Miss Lori, i love your necklace, that pendant is amazing and the chain so unique. I don't have the new issue yet but can't wait "Stringing is my fave magazine and even more special now that i know when i get my copy i can't open the pages fast enough to see what amazing creations my friends have submitted, i think all of your creations are worthy!! I sure miss everyone so much i haven't had a lot of time for blogging as of late a few minites here and there, with Jacks physio and festival season in full swing another month and things will slow down.
    take care and enjoy your Sunday ttfn Lana :)
  48. Lori,
    it was a real treat to open up my copy of Stringing the other day and recognize YOUR necklace right away! Congrats on this publication. I agree with Elisabeth - it doesn't have to take hours and hours to create something special. All that matters is that you love it ..and apparently Stringing did too! I really like that lucite and pearl cluster on the one side - a nice unexpected element!
    And about publications - I think everyone deserves their day in the spotlight...sometimes it's just a matter of timing for all of us.
  49. I've never had anything published, least of all one of my jewelry designs. I'd probably faint if I were ever chosen for such an honor.
    However, having said the above, I know that editors often do not choose the most noteworthy of pieces but try to stay with the trends or go beyond to what may be the cutting edge ... yes we've all seen them, those elaborate pieces that look WOW draped on a large ceramic vase but are totally unsuitable for daily wear.
    I find your designs fresh, wonderfully attractive and most desirably wearable and I adore this piece as it is something any one of us would love to wear on any given day of the week.
    ReplyDelete
  50. Most of those magazines don't feature jewelry that I would wear and I would wear everything you make. I think it's them and not you.
    You're the kindest most generous of people, Lori. Your Bead Soup Party and now your offer to help anyone who asks. When I'm ready, I will ask.
    I hope you and your family are doing well.
    Warm regards,
    Cathie
  51. Lori, I like that your designs are wearable. They are practical, yet unique and artistic. I turned right to the page with your design, and thought to myself, "Way to go, Lori!"
    I have often considered submitting my work to magazines, as many others have mentioned here. One of these days... ;-)
  52. Congrats on your necklace being in Stringing!! I saw it and didn't even realize it was yours-I loved the chain on it right away. I just skim the magazines when I get them and then go back to really read it later.
  53. Don't you just love Golem beads. I have some that I am hoarding. I am just waiting for the right idea to spark. Though I might give up a focal for the Bead Soup.
  54. The Golem beads are so pretty! I looked at their etsy store and saw two i loved (now if only I had the moeny for them! XD)
  55. Lori your work is always stunning and what I really appreciate is, that it is made for real women. You can wear it, you look great with it and you don't have to be afraid that all that glory is falling apart with only one wrong move. When I look at the pieces that are judged at contests at the bead and button shows or the like I always think I wouldn't wear that, not in a minute. I would wear a piece of you in a heartbeat. You simply rock, girl!
    ReplyDelete
  56. Thanks so much for the compliment, I think that just about made my day and possibly my week. Your necklace is lovely, I can't wait to see it in the magazine. I adore Golem Studios pieces, they are the first art beads I ever purchased and I would love to add those to my collection!
    ReplyDelete
  57. Congrats on getting into the magazine! That is so cool, and must feel so good! I've always wanted to try and get in, but haven't had the courage to try yet. I think that's so awesome that you did and your pieces are always so amazing!
    ReplyDelete
  58. Thanks for the giveaway! The necklace is beautiful by the way - and yes! how you put it together does have an impact on the beauty of it.
    I have that same pendant love it but I haven't made anything yet. I love what you did with it, that chain and just the perfect colored beads really made the pendant stand out. I was published in June/July Step by Step Wire Jewelry it was a first for me I was pretty stoked...
    I think you have amazing designs, your necklace really stood out.
