Bead Shopping

Saturday, April 09, 2011

Oh my, ya'll.

(Yes, I did say "ya'll.  I was brought up in southwestern Virginia, after all).

I'm sitting in my hotel room at BeadFest in King of Prussia, PA, and I can't walk.

Nope.  Not a step.

Well, I did get to the door for room service because cheesecake was involved.

I started walking the bead show floor at 10am and didn't stop until almost 5pm.  That's some serious bead shopping.

Now that Zack is in private school, my approach to bead shopping is significantly different.  Before, I'd buy things because they were pretty and have no immediate plans for the beads, and that was ok.  Now, I take a more methodical approach -- especially since sterling silver hit $40+/ounce today.

(I'll wait while all the jewelry designers out there scream in horror.  Go ahead.  I'll wait.)

My goal for shopping today was to find some awesome clasps and focals for my book, and that goal was accomplished several times over.  I also got a lot of cool Czech glass I haven't seen before, and Czech glass makes a mighty tasty Bead Soup.

Smack me up side the head with a big ol' bead, though.  I made sure to bring my camera and double checked that I unplugged my camera cable, but completely failed to PACK the camera cable, so I can't upload my photos from today.

Cripes.

But never fear!  I've bought presents to give to you!  I'll be having a give away SOON for goodies from Green Girl Studios, Barbara Lewis, My Elements, PJ Tool & Supply, and more.

You may not have been able to make the trip to shop with me, but I shopped for you!

So stay tuned!

Go http://www.eye.fi/. I have this card in my camera. You never need that darned cable again! It's so cool. Once you install it, you just turn on the camera & set it near the computer & it downloads all by itself. Like friggen magic! I've been using this product for a long time and can't rate it highly enough!

I sure know how you feel!! When I owned my store downtown, I went to the shows on the west coast and walked for days. But It was worth the aching feet. I still get excited over shows!! Can not wait to go to our northwest bead wholesale shows this year!!

It's been way too long since I got to a bead show. Can't wait to ooh and aah over what you found! There's supposed to be a show in Hampton the same time that I'm down there for Art and Soul, so I'll get my fix soon. Who ever thought silver would get to $40 an ounce? Nice to know that things we made ten years ago have quadrupled in value!

sandi m said...

OK, I'm done screaming! I remember when I paid only $.40/gram. I'm hoarding - I don't want to use it. Shopping from 10-5? We'd make a great team. Can't wait to see all your goodies.
