Susan Boyle

By now you've probably already seen the video of Susan Boyle performing on You've Got Talent. If not, click here.

My husband came home the other day and told me I had to watch the video. I did, and I cried.

I liked her immediately because her personality was terrific. And I was angered in particular by the one girl in the audience that they panned in on, when Susan said she wanted to be like Elaine Paige -- rolling her eyes and making a face. How dare she? It takes guts to get up on that stage, whether you have talent or not, and everyone has dreams, no matter what a person looks like or what their talent may BE. And the woman was humble, too -- did you see her reactionto the judges at the end? She didn't think they would praise her that way.

It said she was unemployed -- I hope this show brings her terrific offers!

(BTW, if you don't know who Elaine Paige is, she's HUGE in the musical theater business.)

  1. I heard Simon has already signed her.
She appeared oddly comfortable up there though. The way she kissed the audiencs as she left...made me wonder if she has performed more than they are letting on.
Still it was lovely and her voice is wonderful.

  2. ChezChani, I don't know -- I imagine she's spent a lot of time in a very small village singing to the audience she sees in her mind. I know I did that a lot with dancing, performing to an audience that hadn't arrived yet.

  4. Thanks for your sweet comment on my recent art 'fragile love'....
and yes, i watched Susan Boyle's performance this morning for like the 10th time, and shed lots of tears every time!! I am so excited for her, that after years, a lifetime of self-sacrificing service to her parents, and many others....that she is being lifted up to such a high place of visibility, and living her dream!
It gives me courage and hope!
    blessings,

  5. I liked her a lot, what I did not like and I say this as a bigger girl, that everyone assumed that she would not be good, because of the way she looked...
and then she sounds great, so it doubles their surprise, not only she has a voice but she looks like that and has a voice, I hate that judgement that you could see people pass on her as she was getting ready to sing...
    more power to her

  6. I have seen it - over and over again - and I think she has the voice of an angel. Makes you wonder how she could have been undiscovered for so long but I am happy for her to finally have this opportunity to shine!

P.S. Thanks for commenting on my zentangles... it's an odd art form - just doodling, really - but was fun to do (although I had some writers cramp by the time I was done!)

  8. THanks for that link Lori - I had heard a lot about it but hadn't actually got around to seeing it. She was brilliant and now I want to know more about her and how she hid that talent away in a little village for so long. (Although that's not that hard = she probably sings at church etc. and maybe this is the first time she's had the gumption to get out and try out of her immediate surroundings where she was 'safe'). I wish her much success and no doubt there will be a makeover soon and she'll look stunning too.
