It's Cadbury Egg Time!

Oh, it's that time of year again... the time of year when I studiously steer my shopping cart well away from any aisle that remotely, possibly could harbor one of these....

It's Cadbury Creme Egg time!

I had never, ever had one of these until 1996, when I was in college. My friend Jen had given up candy for Lent and she missed these the most. We were driving around aimlessly one night, trying to forget we had Organic Chemistry due, and she had me stop at the 7-11 for a Cadbury egg and a Lottery ticket (another thing I'd never bought before).

I'd heard of these "eggs", but was dubious because the insides seemed, well, a bit ... icky.

I remembered the first commercials in the US for these things, and they made a great to-do about the gooey eggy "realism" and I just did not like eggs in any form at ALL, so this wasn't endearing itself to me. No rushing to the store in my pajamas at 3am for a chocolate fix. No, that wasn't me.

Now, though, that COULD be me. Seriously. The lucky thing? One egg will put me into a sugar coma. I just ate one five minutes ago, was prompted to write this, and am lucky I am still coherent. And my refusing to enter the candy aisles at Target, Walmart, or Giant does no good at all when you have a well-meaning, loving husband who only wants to make you happy with the goodness that is Chocolate.

Zack, however, won't have a thing to do with these eggs.

So, what is YOUR favorite Easter candy?

  1. Oh I love those eggs!! I used to buy them right after Easter, when they were on sale. I'd buy boxes full of them and put them in my freezer. Then I'd take all year to eat them. I'd usually cut them in half and eat one half at a time. The freezer is my best diet secret.

  4. I love the other Cadbury eggs -- the little ones that are milk chocolate covered in a candy shell. Yum.

  5. It's funny that you wrote about Cadbury eggs, cuz I'm egg-sactly the same way about them. It was a while before I ever tried one and now if I DO eat one, I'm wacked out on sugar for hours!

Hmmmm...my favourite Easter Candy would most likely be anything peanut butter or those Easter coloured malted milk 'eggs'.

  6. I am passionate about chocolate Easter bunnies in any form. That's because when I was a child I was allergic to chocolate and always missed it the most at Easter, when I had to have white "chocolate" bunnies. They are good but no substitute for the real thing, you know? I outgrew the allergy later in life - just in time for Godiva to become popular in the US!

I'd have to say Reese's peanut butter eggs..although I'll never pass up Lindt dark chocolate truffles!

  8. This made me laugh. I love cadbury eggs.

One year after my daughter had her own place, her sister went to visit her. She said that she found oldest sister laying in bed, cadbury egg wrappers around her, and she looked passed out! I thought of that when you mentioned the sugar coma. :-)

  9. I love the Nestle hard candy chocolate eggs. I could and would eat the whole bag!

I have to stay away at Easter time...they are so dangerous!

  10. Robin eggs! Those hard-shell covered malted milk thingies! But I do eat them until I'm sick, so I allow myself one package per year.

  11. mmmm... I love those egss...and I don't know why - maybe it's the sugar jolt.
I may have to try ChezChani's freezer trick - can't exactly halve them when not frozen - too oogy.

And I saw Reeses Peanut Butter Eggs in the store this weekend...those can get dangerous too :P

  13. Lori, you are so right, Cadbury Eggs will put you in a sugar coma..I'm a jelly bean fanatic myself. Can't eat just one, and I love the original jelly beans! I myself have to avoid the easter isles during this holiday, but I think they have magnets in the floor that take me to the jelly beans every year!

  15. I love your photos of these Eggs. I have to say that i like them but they are not my favorite Easter candy. I love the choclate bunnies and rabbits even thought the chocolate is really poor quality, mostly sugar.
My other favorite easter candy is hands down. . ..PEEPS. whether they are pink chickadees or yellow rabbits, I get a sugar rush from these things every spring!

  19. My favorite are Peeps... but only after they've dried out for about a week. As soon as I get the package home from the store, I unwrap it and let it sit out until the marshmallow gets chewy - YUM!

  20. Beckie, that's exactly how my husband likes them! So we have to have to different packages of Peeps -- one for me (fresh) and one for him (chewy).
