Back from the show
Great weekend! Nearly doubled last year's sales, which is great, and now preparing for the next show in Connecticut. And I got my acceptance letter today from the September Occoquan Fall Craft Show so I'm stoked. I can't quite believe I am doing 11 shows for sure this year, possibly 12, and have no idea where I'm going to get the time to do everything I need to do, but I've never been known to sit still for long, so it will get done!
Some quick photos from the show -- I'm thrilled with the earring display Rick built for me! This was the first show where I didn't look around and find something else to change. I think I'll stick with this set up for a bit (at least for THIS year!) Oh wait, I take that back, I AM adding lighting under the shelves of the book shelves at the front of the booth -- found a way to do it and I think it will really add sparkle!
Books -- I think I mentioned that I took a break from serious stuff and read the first six books of the Wizard of Oz series -- fun stuff! It's good to nuture your inner kid! Then I took a complete left turn and read a classic banned book, Lady Chatterly's Lover by D.H. Lawrence -- I didn't expect to like it but really did!
And now I'm going back the OTHER direction and re-reading another children's series that I loved, The Borrower's by Mary Norton. I think I loved these books because of the inventive things they did with all the scraps they picked up, and it reminded me of how I furnished my dollhouse -- dollhouse furniture was way too expensive for me as a kid to buy, so I got creative and made some of the cutest things out of random stuff.
I can't be the only one out there that has reread children's classics as an adult -- and I have to say, it's been so enjoyable to discover nuances and things that previously went unnoticed. And there's something to be said for taking a welcome break from the race of a normal day to enjoy something just for the fun of it.
